My Wedding Accents Blog: Birdcage Veils - The Hot Look This Season

My Wedding Accents Blog: Birdcage Veils - The Hot Look This Season

Birdcage Veils - The Hot Look This Season

Although the traditional veil and tiara are popular choices for today’s brides, brides are also getting more adventurous with their veils and opting for less traditional styles. For a classy, vintage look the birdcage-style veil is the hot style for this season. Made popular in the 1940s, by glamorous actresses, it’s now making a comeback. As seen among Hollywood celebrities, the birdcage veil was spotted on Katherine Heigl, during her wedding in 2007 and Drew Barrymore also wore one at the premiere of her new movie “Grey Gardens”.

The birdcage veil can be worn longer or shorter to suit your tastes. It is an easy to wear accessory that will compliment many styles of wedding gowns. The veil is usually worn with your hair tied up, but also suits shorter hairstyles. It's also becoming very popular for brides marrying for a second time, who feel the traditional long white veil is only suitable for their first wedding.

For a coordinating headpiece, consider a flower hair accent decorated with crystals, rhinestones, feather fascinators or even lace for the popular vintage look. Crystal and pearl hairpins and spiral pins are another option and work well with up-dos.

Practical Tips for Wedding Invitation Shopping

You've set your wedding date and reserved the hall. Now it's time to announce your intentions to family and friends with wedding invitations that set the tone for your special day and reflect your personal style.

What are some favorite color schemes for couples planning their weddings in 2009? Chocolate brown is still holding strong as a popular base color and is often used with pink, blue and cream. Gold and metallic papers are also being used more. Color schemes are typically influenced by the season. Warm colors such as browns, deep reds, gold and deep purples are great for fall. Summer colors are the brights, such as orange, pink, light blue and lime green.

Although you want your wedding invitations to look beautiful and set the stage for your big day, their true purpose is to provide detailed information about your celebration. Your wedding invitations include the date, time and location of the ceremony, brief information about the reception and any important instructions for your guests such as "no photographs during the ceremony" or "no gifts please". They also indicate the style of your wedding ceremony and festivities, helping your guests determine suitable dress and the type of celebration to expect.

While invitations are generally sent out 4 - 6 weeks before the wedding, couples who have a lot of out-of-town guests, or are getting married on a holiday weekend often send out Save-the-date cards six months to one year before their wedding. Save-the-date cards are also popular for destination weddings, so guests can prepare financially.

Here are some more practical tips for your wedding invitation shopping:

Know Your Numbers: In order to get an accurate quote on your invitations, your guest list should be more or less complete. Pricing and delivery dates are dependent on the number of invitations required.

Set a Budget and Stick to it: Figure out how much you plan to spend before you begin looking and a good supplier should be able to work within your budget.

Be Prepared: Order at least 10 percent more than you need to accommodate last-minute guests. Going back to reorder can be time consuming and expensive.

Proofread your Invitation Carefully: Many couples find errors on their wedding invitations and have to re-order. With the additional rush charges, finding errors after the fact can be as costly as it is inconvenient. Proofread carefully, paying special attention to the names, date, time and location.

Choosing A Wedding Theme

Choosing a wedding theme for your wedding is one of the most important decisions you'll make for the big day, aside from deciding on your vows. Many couples have an idea of the kind of wedding they want, but don't know where to start, or how to incorporate a theme into their wedding. To choose a wedding theme, you should begin by sitting down with your fiancé and brainstorming some ideas on a sheet of paper. Start with some basic ideas, such as do you want an indoor or outdoor wedding, what are are your favourite colors, do you want a casual or formal setting, what hobbies do you share?

After you jot down answers to these questions and others, a unique wedding theme might pop out at you.

Perhaps you’re looking for something elegant and romantic and are planning a Valentine’s Day wedding. You might base other decisions around this such as: red color theme accessories, soft music, romantic tableware and lighting,
rose theme accessories, centerpieces and heart theme favors at each dinner table at the reception.

Here are a few wedding theme accessories and ideas to spark your imagination with possibilities:

soccer fanatic grooms, we have the perfect sports theme wedding cake toppers to add a fun and unique touch to your wedding cake! We also have fun and unique soccer, basketball, baseball & football mini gumball machines, which are perfect for a sports theme wedding, event or even birthdays.

Create a Wedding Theme inspired by the Season:

Winter Themed wedding favors and Winter Wonderland Theme Accessories in various shades of blue, white and silver.

Choosing to work with a theme will guide you in your decisions and selections of
wedding favors, food and menu choices, decorations and invitations, to finding the perfect location for your ceremony and reception.

Once you have a vision of what you want your wedding to "look like", you can then begin focusing on exactly what you'll need and have a better understanding of what vendor arrangements will need to be made.

Whatever theme you decide on, it should be chosen carefully and thought over for several days or weeks while you consider how it will be incorporated into your wedding. Don't hesitate to change your mind if your original idea doesn't quite fit your needs.

Most importantly, make sure the unique wedding theme idea you choose reflects both of your personalities and the bond that will be shared on your special day!

Planning a Winter Wedding Theme

Winter is a beautiful season around which to plan a wedding. Amidst the glistening, soft-falling snow, glowing candlelight and reflections of silver and gold, it is a romantic and enchanting atmosphere that can make for an unforgettable day warmed by family and friends - no matter what the temperature is outside.

There are many benefits for couples who choose to have a winter wedding including substantial savings on wedding essentials and avoidance of long line ups for services. Wedding venues are also more readily available (aside from Christmas and Valentines) and it's much easier to plan on short notice, during the less busier months for wedding vendors.

Other bonuses include flowers that don't wilt in the heat, wedding cakes that don't sag, and a bride that is not melting. There is also a better chance that more of your invited guests will not be on holidays and therefore able to attend your wedding.

For a winter wonderland setting, choose a historical manor with glamorous chandeliers, sparkling lights, dark panelling and a fireplace to create a cozy ambience. For wedding accessories, decorations, and favors, winter weddings offer a host of snowflake themed items in various shades of blue, white and silver.

A winter bride can wear a white satin gown with cap sleeves or longer, mesh sleeves. Brides can even choose a strapless gown and wear a cozy fur wrap to keep the bride warm as she enters and exits her wedding. Decorate your reception with glittering snowflake accents on your guest book, candles and other accessories. Sparkling crystal jewelry, crystal bouquet jewelry accents, and crystal table decorations also add to this magical winter wonder theme.
